A Bit About Us

The JAG Foundation is in its 11th year of creating sustainable change in high-risk communities in South Africa. Utilising sport and play as educational tools to impart life skills and offer children in these communities an alternative lifepath to gangsterism, drugs, and abuse.

Our value-based play programmes, target children’s degraded belief system of themselves, their community, their lives, and future. By creating safe and trusted environments in which learning and self-esteem building can take place, we expose children to the real and attainable opportunity of an alternative life path, one of hope and an escape from a societal predisposition of their future.

What next after Comrades?
The best way to improve your Comrades time for 2019/20 is to improve your marathon time (normally 2,5 x marathon time), the best way to improve your marathon time is to improve your 21,1 km time, and once again the best way to improve your 21,1 km time is to improve your 10 km time.

So look at these examples assuming a club runner that can do an average of 60 km or 80 km or 100 km per week .

Weekly average: 80 km 60 km 100 km
10km PB:
35min = marathon time of 2 h 54 2 h 56 2 h 50
40min = marathon time of 3 h 14 3 h 19 3 h 10
45min = marathon time of 3 h 36 4 h 41 3 h 30
50min = marathon time of 3 h 55 4 h 02 3 h 50
55min = marathon time of 4 h 15 4 h 23 4 h 10
60min = marathon time of 4 h 34 4 h 42 4 h 25

So this is where coaching is so important, you need realistic targets based on your capabilities and time available to train and then you need to build your miles whilst balancing the time spent on endurance , strength, speed and rest and recovery to avoid injuries where possible and most importantly choose your races carefully.
